GET THE FACTS
1. What is Freemasonry
Freemasonry is a fraternal organization dedicated to fellowship, moral development, and service to the community. Through the symbolic tools of operative Masonry, it teaches men how to improve themselves, support their families, and contribute positively to the world around them.
2. How Do I Become A Mason?
Prospective Masons must be men of lawful age, recommended by current members, and complete an interview as part of the application process.
If you’re interested in joining, simply reach out to a Mason you know they’ll be glad to guide you on the next steps.
Do I Have To Be A Christian To Join?
Masonry requires a belief in a higher power, a commitment to community service, and a referral from respected members of the community. While many Masons are Christian or Jewish, adherence to any specific religion is not required. Freemasonry welcomes men from all major faith traditions including Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, and others who share its values of integrity, charity, and brotherhood.
Is Freemasonry A Cult?
No, Freemasonry is an apolitical and non-religious organization. While we do have leadership, bylaws, and guiding principles, membership does not require unquestioning obedience to any individual or group within the fraternity. Freemasonry is, at its core, a voluntary fraternal and community-based organization. Participation is entirely by choice, and any member is free to join or leave at any time.
Are The Conspiracies About Freemasonry True?
Masonry is a secret society. We have certain rituals and information that we do not share until a person is initiated. This can be fertile ground for conspiracy theories, but they are not true.
Masons are leaders and do tend to end up in positions of leadership, but we are not trying to control the world.
Masons don’t worship Satan, perform sacrifices, or work with the illuminati.
We are a community organization that believes in friendship, morality, and brotherly love.
Why Do You Call The Leader "Worshipful Master"?
The term “Worshipful” has several meanings, and like much of Freemasonry’s language and traditions, it dates back centuries.
In old English, “worship” was used as a formal title of honor to address or refer to highly respected individuals or groups.
Thus, the title “Worshipful Master” can be understood as “Respected Leader,” conveying the same sense of esteem and authority.
Who Can Be A Freemason
Freemasonry welcomes men from all countries, religions, races, ages, incomes, education levels, and viewpoints. To become a member, however, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Be a male at least 18 years old (minimum age may vary by jurisdiction, sometimes up to 21).
Believe in the existence of a Supreme Being, without regard to specific theological beliefs or religious affiliations.
Demonstrate good moral character.
Be motivated to join for reasons beyond personal gain or profit.
Apply freely, based on your own “free will and accord”.
Hold a favorable opinion of Freemasonry.
Have a sincere desire to gain knowledge and a willingness to follow the ancient customs and traditions of the fraternity.
How Do I Apply To Become A Freemason?
